Kora Jawab Lyrics

Posted by on September 14, 2011

I found this Punjabi song randomly on someone’s Facebook wall. I was intrigued by the lyrics so decided to try to translate and understand them better myself. I have attached the song and lyrics below. If anyone can help me make the translations better/correct any mistakes please do not hesitate to comment.

      1. Kora Jawab { Inder Shahzad }
laare labhean di haan naalo yaaro (rather than trying to find agreement in false promises)
ke kora hi jawab changa hai (flat/point blank response/refusal is better)

fase rain naalo bahut bareekian de (rather than getting drowned in subtleties)
sida hi hisab changa hai (keeping a straight account is better)

**note**: laare = false promises, kora = flat/point blank refusal, bareekian = subtleties, hisab = account, calculation, computation

kehnde dekh ke gawandi de mahal nu (they say that after seeing a neighbor’s palace)
kuli nu nahion aag lai di (you shouldn’t burn your shack down)

jithe chaldi na hove kade apni (where one’s way does not get accepted or is not allowed)
othe gal ni chalaai di (there one should not delve in discussing one’s matters)

ja ke pardes rulne de naalon (rather than going abroad and being pushed around )
bai apna hi panjab changa hai (our panjab(which is home) is better…)

**note**: gawandi = neighbor, mahal = palace, kuli = shack/shanty, pardes  = abroad/away from home, rul = being pushed around/being neglected

fase rain naalo bahutian bareekian de (rather than getting drowned in subtleties)
sida hi hisab changa hai (keeping a straight account is better)

laare labhean di haan naalo yaaro (rather than trying to find agreement in false promises)
ke kora hi jawab changa hai (flat/point blank response/refusal is better)

fase rain naalo bahutian bareekian de (rather than getting drowned in subtleties)
sida hi hisab changa hai (keeping a straight account is better)

mil jaande ne gadaar taan bathere (one finds many traitors in life)
ke yaar kiten taawan milda (a real/true friend is rarely found)

oh aj lakrran vich uge ne bathere (these days so many are raised in wood)
koi phul tawaan tawaan khilda (it is very rare to see a flower blossom)

laga renda har vele naal sitiaan te (he (talking about random lovers) is busy whistling at girls)
phul taan gulab change he (the flower that is desirable is the rose)

**note**: gadaar =  traitors, bathere = many, tawaan = rare(ly), uge  = grown in, phul = flower, tawaan tawaan = very rare(ly), khilda = blossom

fase rain naalo bahutian bareekian de (rather than getting drowned in subtleties)
sida hi hisab changa hai (keeping a straight account is better)

laare labhean di haan naalo yaaro (rather than trying to find agreement in false promises)
ke kora hi jawab changa hai (flat/point blank response/refusal is better)

fase rain naalo bahutian bareekian de (rather than getting drowned in subtleties)
sida hi hisab changa hai (keeping a straight account is better)

lagi naalo tut jaave khende  (they say if vows of love break)
bhalieh ve kadran di yaari kuj ni (naive person! friendship with social norms is worth nothing)
oh aje kachian jamaatan vich parrda (there is a dividing wall in these ‘kachiaan jamaatan’)
luttera ta likhari koi ni (the writer/sayer is never a cheat/swindler)

oh bahute maan sarovaraan de naalo (rather than having so much pride in fancy holy ponds)
ve pind da qilab change hai (the village pond is better)

**note**: lagi = love/torture/vows of love, tut jaave = to be broken, kadran = social norms/values, kachian  = (in this context means) weak/false/undependable/temporary/immature/unsound/undependable, jamaatan = social groups/parties/communities/societies/congregations, parrda = parda = curtain/dividing wall, luttera = robber/swindler/cheat, likhari = writer/author/scribe, maan = pride, sarovaraan = sacred pools/ponds/lakes, qilab = village pond

fase rain naalo bahutian bareekian de (rather than getting drowned in subtleties)
sida hi hisab changa hai (keeping a straight account is better)

laare labhean di haan naalo yaaro (rather than trying to find agreement in false promises)
ke kora hi jawab changa hai (flat/point blank refusal/response is better)
